A DAAB MT industrial swing gate system has provided the answer to a demanding automation challenge at a busy railway station in Dorset.
Installed by Scroll Gates Ltd, the system assists with the manual operation of a pedestrian level crossing, where the gates are opened and closed continuously as trains arrive and depart throughout the day.
A Demanding Application
The previous competitor operators were struggling with the frequency of operation, despite being paired with a newer 24V control panel.
For Scroll Gates, the priority was finding an industrial swing gate operator capable of handling continuous use without compromising on smooth, controlled operation.
The DAAB MT was selected for the job.
Built for Continuous Use
A DAAB MT single kit, comprising two swing gate operators, was installed by Scroll Gates engineer Dan, with installation and set-up supported by the FAAC UK technical team.
Designed specifically for industrial applications, the DAAB MT is rated for intensive use and combines a robust double worm gearbox with an arm system designed for smooth opening and closing. It can automate swing gate leaves up to 3.5 metres and 300 kg, and is engineered to perform in demanding conditions, including high winds and temperatures down to -45°C.
The system at the station operates on a hold-to-run basis, with the gate remaining in sight of the operating attendant.
The Right Operator for the Job
The DAAB MT has proven well suited to the intensive demands of the crossing, providing the reliability and controlled operation required throughout the day.
Dan from Scroll Gates was impressed with the build quality, describing the DAAB operators as “quality and robust”, and confirmed that he would happily use DAAB again:
“The support we received from FAAC UK, particularly from Ruben, was invaluable. The installation went very smoothly, with the site safely shut down for the duration of the work. The previous swing gate operator was being overworked and simply wasn’t suited to the level of demand, with approximately 90 openings every day. The train station needed a solution that could reliably handle this frequency of use, and the DAAB MT operators fitted during this installation were the right choice. As part of the work, we also replaced the existing cabling, which had been damaged by rats, and rewired the system using a FAAC control cable. Overall, the support from FAAC UK and the performance of the new operators have been key to delivering a reliable solution for this busy site.” – Dan Fairey, Scroll Gates.
With operators designed for a wide range of demanding industrial gate applications, the DAAB range combines the reliability, smooth operation and performance required when standard gate automation simply isn't enough.
